Konow – A spiral of impulses

Villa Konow is a venerable villa designed by architect Konow Lund. The building was recently restored and given new life, with the aim of opening it up to the public and creating a local meeting point. Our task was to contribute to concept development and create a dignified visual identity that helped to preserve the house's DNA.

The concept became "a modern inn", named after Konow; an unorthodox architect of his time, who mastered the art of combining different styles into architectural poetry. The architect's signature style is influenced by everything from his studies in Dresden, to organ music, European church architecture, American villas, and all the way to traditional Norwegian western architecture. Therefor, with respect for the building, the identity has developed a lot based on the interpretation of the architect's own inspiration, in a spiral of impulses from different places and eras.

There is a completely unique atmosphere in the inn, with great contrasts between solemnity and playfulness. A bizarre combination of whimsy towards something bohemian and disobedient. We have stayed with this atmosphere in the branding, to invite the audience into a lively fairytale world away from modern everyday life. The total is a complex, eclectic visual expression, enhanced by a specially composed audial language that gives hints of fictional memories and people. A lush and atypical universe - "The Konow Way".
